A Nation of Liars

Nachman Blumental was born in 1902 in Borszczów Galicia, Austria-Hungary (today Borshchiv, Ukraine). He died November 8, 1983 in Tel Aviv.

As a gifted scholar, Blumental studied Polish language and literature, history, and education at the University of Warsaw. He received his first degree of philosophy in 1928, and from then on he worked as a schoolteacher in Lublin and later in Łódź.

When World War II broke out, Blumental was able to escape to the Soviet Union and survived the Holocaust. Tragically, His first wife Maria and son Ariel, who stayed in Poland as Gentiles, were betrayed to the Nazis and murdered in 1943.

Their deaths, along with the deaths of millions of others, inspired Blumental to dedicate his life to collecting, researching, and compiling all materials related to ghettos, camps, sites of mass murder, and Nazi terminology.

Of special interest to Blumental was the specific vocabulary and “doublespeak” utilized by German Nazis in official administrative documents and in materials presented to the public during the Holocaust. Blumental stated that “the Nazi language was one of the most important tools used by the Germans in the physical extermination of the Jewish people. He was not wrong.

After extensive research Nachman Blumental published an important work in 1947, Słowa niewinne (Innocent Words), a dictionary of German Nazi words published in 1947 (Center for Jewish History: Papers of Nachman Blumental).

The extensive work of Nachman Blumental serves as a reminder that a society can be corrupted by the language it uses. From 1933 to 1945 Germany became a nation of liars.

Understanding the Nazi Lexicon: Key German Words and Their Historical Context

The Nazi regime employed a carefully constructed lexicon, a vocabulary designed not only to communicate but to manipulate, indoctrinate, and ultimately dehumanize. Understanding the German words used by the Nazis is crucial to comprehending the ideology and the horrific consequences of their actions that justified the death camps and the Holocaust.

The most famous glaring example of using innocent language to cover evil is the phrase “Final Solution.” The phrase was coined by Nazi officials to describe their plan for the systematic extermination of the Jewish population in Europe.

The term was first used in 1938 by Franz Stuckart, an Undersecretary in the Reich Ministry of the Interior. Adolf Eichmann, a key figure in the implementation of the Holocaust, also played a significant role in popularizing the term among Nazi leaders. The phrase became widely recognized following the Wannsee Conference in January 1942, where plans for the genocide were formalized (Jewish Virtual Library; New World Encyclopedia).

Other innocent words also took on a sinister meaning when embraced by the German people who were indoctrinated by the media at the behest of the government.

Race

One of the most pervasive and insidious terms was Rasse (race). While the word itself has a neutral meaning in standard German, referring simply to a group of people sharing common characteristics, the Nazis twisted it into a cornerstone of their ideology. They deployed Rasse to establish a hierarchical system, placing the “Aryan race” at its apex and relegating other groups – Jews, Romani people, Slavs, and Black people – to inferior positions.

Racial Hygiene

This perversion of the word’s meaning facilitated the justification of discrimination, persecution, and ultimately, genocide. The concept of Rassenhygiene (racial hygiene), a pseudo-scientific justification for eugenics, further cemented the lethal implications of this distorted understanding of race.

Folk Community

Closely linked to Rasse was the concept of Volksgemeinschaft (folk community or national community). This term aimed to represent a unified, homogenous nation bound by shared blood, culture, and loyalty to the Nazi state.

The reality, however, was far from this idealized vision. The Volksgemeinschaft served as a powerful tool for excluding and marginalizing those deemed “undesirable,” reinforcing the narrative of an internal enemy threatening the purity of the nation. Those who did not fit the Nazi definition of belonging were actively excluded from this imagined community, paving the way for their persecution and eventual destruction.

Leader

The word Führer (leader) epitomized the cult of personality surrounding Adolf Hitler. While the word itself simply means “leader,” its use within the Nazi context signified absolute authority and unquestioning obedience. Hitler was presented not merely as a political leader but as a divinely appointed figure, a Führer who embodied the will of the German people and possessed unparalleled insight and judgment. This cult of personality stifled dissent and enabled the regime’s brutal suppression of opposition.

Synchronization

Gleichschaltung (coordination or synchronization) described the process by which the Nazi regime systematically brought all aspects of German society under its control. This involved suppressing independent organizations, incorporating existing institutions into the Nazi framework, and eliminating any potential source of opposition. From education and media to trade unions and religious organizations, Gleichschaltung ensured that all elements of German life served the Nazi agenda.

Final Solution

The term Endlösung der Judenfrage (Final Solution to the Jewish Question) represents the chilling culmination of Nazi ideology. While seemingly bureaucratic and euphemistic, this phrase denoted the systematic extermination of European Jewry.

The deliberate use of euphemism allowed the Nazis to mask the horrific reality of the Holocaust and facilitate its implementation. The chilling precision of the term underscores the calculated and industrialized nature of the genocide.

Subhuman

Words like Untermensch (subhuman) and Juden (Jew), while seemingly straightforward, took on deeply derogatory and dehumanizing connotations under the Nazi regime. Untermensch was used to designate those deemed inferior, justifying their mistreatment and eventual annihilation. The term Juden, stripped of its neutral meaning, became a symbol of hatred and a mark of impending doom.

A Corrupt and Compliant Media

Propaganda played a central role in disseminating Nazi ideology. Joseph Goebbels reminds us “A lie told once remains a lie, but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth.” While the term itself is neutral, the Nazis weaponized it to manipulate public opinion, create a climate of fear and hatred, and solidify their power. Through carefully crafted speeches, posters, films, and radio broadcasts, they propagated their message of racial purity, national regeneration, and the need for aggressive expansion.

In conclusion, the Nazi lexicon was a carefully crafted instrument of power, designed to manipulate, indoctrinate, and ultimately dehumanize. By understanding the specific meanings and historical context of key German words used by the Nazis, we can gain a deeper understanding of their ideology and the devastating consequences of their actions. This understanding is not simply an academic exercise; it is essential to preventing future atrocities and ensuring that the horrors of the Holocaust are never forgotten. ( www.Linguavoyage.org )

An Alarming Reminder

Studying these words serves as a stark reminder of the power of language to shape thought and action, and the crucial importance of critical thinking and historical awareness in countering the insidious spread of hatred and intolerance.

In America, History is Repeating Itself

The events of World War II have not enlightened America as a nation in some respects. Because the lessons of the past have not been learned, Americans find themselves becoming a nation of liars. The evidence is compelling in WOKE Ideology.

Intersexuality

The lie is told that a child can be raised as either a boy or a girl. Dr. John William Money (1921–2006), a New Zealand American psychologist, sexologist, and professor at John Hopkins University was a leading advocate of the lie of intersexuality. He persuaded the parents of David Reimer to rear their son as a girl. Reimer struggled to adapt, exhibiting masculine behavior in childhood, and reverted to living as a male when he became aware of the treatment. He later died by suicide following his brother’s suicide (As Nature Made Him: The Boy Who was Raised as a Girl, John Colapinto).

Transgenderism

The lie is told that a male can transition and be a woman and a woman can transition to be a man. Many who embrace this false narrative endure bodily mutilation when their genitalia are radically altered. Parents are persuaded to have their boys and girls operated on with experimental drugs and surgeries replicate and surpass the barbarism of what Dr. Josef Mengele did to children in the concentration camp of Auschwitz. Photographs are available on the web. The voice of the Detranstioners is suppressed by a cruel and corrupt medial field.

Same-Sex Marriage

The lie is told that a marriage can take place between a man and a man or between a woman and a woman. Only by redefining marriage can such a monstrous falsehood be embraced. But embraced it is. On June 26, 2015 the Supreme Court of the United States granted all same-sex couples the right to marry and have their marriages recognized nationwide. Study Obergefell v. Hodges

XY – XX

There is the lie that a boy / man has a right to dress and undress in the locker room of a girl / woman. Title IX is the law cited to allow boys in girls’ locker rooms. This federal law prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational programs and activities receiving federal funding. Recent interpretations have expanded Title IX to include gender identity, which means schools may be required to allow students to access facilities that align with their gender identity, including locker rooms and bathrooms (AI).

DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion)

In an attempt to guarantee an equal outcome for all, the lie is told the pathway forward is by embracing the ideology of WOKE. The reality, the truth, is that DEI unfairly elevates minority groups over others. Individuals are given preferential treatment, not on merit, but on the color of their skin or some other arbitrary basis. DEI is synonymous with identify politics resulting in increase racial tension, new and immature terminology such as “microaggression,” and a victimhood mentality.

Jesus is the Solution to the Problems of Society

The Church Has a Role to Play

In a world of increasing violence, insanity, vulgarity, and liars, the Church has an opportunity to be the ultimate INFLUENCER. Indeed, Jesus said that the Church is the salt of the earth (Matt. 5:13).

But the “salt,” the Church, must not lose the preserving power it has by compromise or embracing the language of lies.

The Church must not call same sex relationships a marriage.

The Church must not defend DEI.

The Church must not tell boys there is no harm to girls if they are in the same locker room with them undressing.

The Church must affirm that God made male and female (Gen. 5:2). There are only two sexes. Gender dysphoria is a psychological and spiritual problem that must be arrested.

The Church must not call good – evil, nor call evil – good. Woe to them who do this (Isaiah 5:20).

The Church must simply tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth for this is the will of God. “Thou shalt not bear false witness” is a commandment to be truthful. There is not a version of personal truthfulness, there is “true truth” meaning Biblical truth which is not subjective. There is a yearning in the heart of many for the truth. Megan Woods reflects this longing in her music.

How many times can you hear the same lies
Before you start to believe it
The Enemy keeps whispering to me
I swear these days
It’s all that I’m hearing

I used to know who I was
Now I look in the mirror
And I’m not sure
Lord I don’t want to
Listen to the lies anymore

If you do not want to listen to the lies any more than turn to Jesus who said, “I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). By believing in Jesus, by reading the Bible, the promise is given, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).
